A group of gals take a weekend camping trip, with one of them having snuck away from her abusive boyfriend to join them. Unfortunately for everyone on the trip, the angry boyfriend Peter goes on a revenge rampage to find his runaway lady, Emily. This slasher film presents a very possible reality in today’s world full of emotionally stunted young adults who don’t know how to deal with their emotions. From the poster art, which focuses on the ladies, the movie came out differently then what I expected.
At the start of the movie I felt as if some of the characters were a bit hollow and lacking motivation but as I kept on I realized that many people actually are this way in real life. These young adults are out for a good time and trying to impress each other and have the better one liner over each other. The movie’s focus jumps a bit from scene to scene, so we don’t get a chance to fully invest ourselves into any one character. This makes it easy for us to watch them die off.
For a low budget movie it works well and hits the mark most of the time. The soundtrack draws heavily on 80’s style synth and makes you wonder if this movie would have done better 30 years ago rather than today. At times the pacing can get slow but then picks up with its slasher scenes, some which almost border on funny. It’s not a bad debut film for Kell-Koj Studios who have now gone on to become Zellco Productions.
Overall the film is enjoyable and even has a 75% audience score on RottenTomatoes.com. I don’t think everyone is going to find this movie as enjoyable as horror fans probably will.
